about ango
the vision
Our hope for each guest, no matter the duration or express purpose of your visit, is that the natural beauty and peace of this special land will weave their way into your heart and bring you joy.
With that intention, we offer Ango Retreat, our 'peaceful dwelling',
as a lovely home base from which to explore the treasures of Salt Spring Island; as a supportive crucible for creating, learning, sharing or connecting; and as a quiet haven for rest, reflection, and rejuvenation.
an introduction to the team
Hosts Candace Cole and Eric Field established Ango after they first visited the property in 2003 and felt at once that the land itself has an inate magic and heavenly quality all its own - the perfect location to create the Retreat Center of their dreams. Upon moving in, they began the process of adding buildings, and planting gardens and orchards, based on permaculture methods.
Candace and Eric feel honoured to be the stewards of this very precious land, and are always delighted to witness it working its special restorative magic upon all who visit.
They have travelled extensively in Tibet, Peru, India, and often Africa, where they are deeply involved with assisting several communities, especially focusing on the children's education and health.
At Ango they both offer professional services:
Candace Cole MD integrates 20 years experience as a family doctor into a compassionate acupuncture and traditional Chinese Medicine practice.
She is also an experienced educator and group facilitator.
Eric Field MFT is a registered counselor, with special interests in relationship and family therapy, individual or small group intensives, and trauma work.
Don Conley has recently relocated from Vancouver to be Ango's marvellous musician-in-residence. A highly accomplished performer, educator, choral conductor and clinician, Don is available to teach, entertain or accompany in Ango's newly converted separate music studio, which houses his beautiful grand pianos - a concert Steinway and a Kuwai - and French harpsichord.
Shelley Sherriff joined the Ango team when, being the first to arrive for the first community event, she was posted to the top of the drive to welcome the other guests, and exclaimed to herself and the trees, "I'm home!" She has been 'posted' ever since, attending to many tasks involved in Ango's ongoing evolution, as a writer, graphic designer, web tech, planner, photographer, ceremonialist, chef, gardener and generally useful person.
